Today took place the 5th stage of “Tour of Austria”, from St. Johann/Alpendorf to Sonntagberg, 228 kilometers long. Maxim Belkov was the best performer for Katusha Team: the Russian rider left the main group in the first part of the route and took part to the successful daily breakaway, made by 12 riders. Nobody was a real danger for the athletes who are fighting for the final win, so the main group left them go: the escape reached the finishing line with more than 9′ over the first of the chasers. Belkov tried until the end to take the win, but he reached the sixth place, 14” far from the daily winner Fabio Taborre (Acqua&Sapone). Second position for Fabio Bandiera (Omega Pharma-Quick Step), 5” far from the first place, while Matthias Brandle (NetApp) completed the podium with the same gap. In general classification, Petr Ignatenko is now 7th, 1’53” far from Jakob Fuglsang (RadioShack-Nissan) which holds the leadership.
