Good performance for Katusha Team in “GP de Wallonie”: Luca Paolini went close to the podium and took the fourth place, while Oscar Freire did a great attacking race proving to be in top shape before the World Championships. Katusha Team’s Spanish rider tried to attack and go in a breakaway several times: the first with 60 kilometers to go, the last with 21 kilometers to go. His tries were all neutralized, but he proved to feel in a brilliant shape. The crucial moment was in the last kilometer, when Vacansoleil-DCM tried to impose a strong pace in order to put all the sprinters out of the battle: six riders managed to take some space over the main group, with Julien Simon (Saur-Sojasun) which proved to be the fastest over Greg Van Avermaet (BMC) and Bjorn Leukemans (Vacansoleil-DCM). Right behind the third position, Katusha Team’s rider Luca Paolini, another athlete that will be present in the next World Championships with the Italian National Team.
